Some apparent videos of Tesla drivers wearing Apple’s new Vision Pro headset have prompted US Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg to remind everyone: Distracted driving is never acceptable. Buttigieg responded on X (formerly Twitter) to a video that had more than 24m views of a Tesla driver who appeared to be gesturing with his hands to manipulate a virtual reality field.
“Regardless of advanced features,” Buttigieg emphasised, “all driver-assistance systems require the driver to be fully engaged and in control at all times.”

Apple’s Vision Pro headset was released last week. The headset, Apple says, blends three-dimensional digital content with a view of the outside world. On its part, iPhone maker clearly warns against using Vision Pro while driving.
Tesla, whose Autopilot system has also faced scrutiny, reiterated its stance: their advanced features are meant for attentive drivers with hands on the wheel, ready to take over instantly. They did not immediately respond to requests for comment either.
This isn’t Buttigieg’s first time addressing such concerns. He previously issued similar warnings regarding Tesla Autopilot, highlighting the crucial role of driver vigilance.
“Apple Vision Pro will change the way we communicate, collaborate, work and enjoy entertainment,” Apple executive Tim Cook said. However, it seems some users are taking it to far.
